This is the main sign for The Dragon Garden at Phalen Poetry Park. A group of us installed it and a 3-part poem on metal ribbons today. It is a group effort, a long time in the making. For my part - I was invited to design the dragon sign based on what the poetry park/East Side Arts Council volunteers had discussed and a curve template some of them had created. I was asked to not make it look too slick and refined. After my drawing was approved, I made it digital. Then it was passed on to the sign company to figure out some engineering issues and laser cut the metal. The metal chosen will remain uncoated so it will have a lovely patina of browns and oranges.

This is great Christine! How big is it? I can kind of get an idea but am unsure. In a few years that patina will really take over and stand out. Good choice!
It is 16' long (two 8' sections bolted together).
This was something completely new for me - public art. I'm glad so many people lent their expertise to this project.
All I had to concern myself with was the look of the dragon, the text and any safety issues I could think of. The curve, the materials, engineering issues, and placement were all taken care of by other team members.
